We’re doing a “GIVE BACK” to fresh water!

Posted by on Mar 22, 2013 in In the News | 0 comments

World Water Day Milwuakee 2013FRESH WATER!  On March 22nd, 2013, as part of the 10th Annual United Nations World Water Day (WWD), people around the globe will hold events focused on the importance of managing the world’s freshwater resources. Milwaukee will observe the day with the 2nd Annual Milwaukee WWD 5K Run/Walk on Saturday, April 6. Proceeds from the event benefit The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee Chapter of Engineers without Borders (EWB-UWM) who build water distribution systems in Guatemala.

Sign-up for the 5K Run/Walk here. We’ll see you there!

DID YOU KNOW?  Milwaukee is recognized internationally as a hub of water technology, due to the work of the Milwaukee 7 Water Council and the UWM School of Freshwater Sciences,  AND Milwaukee is one of two U.S. cities (the other is San Francisco) and one of 13 world wide, to be designated as a United Nations Global Compact City. The UN Global Compact address issues involving human rights, environmentalism, health or labor standards. Milwaukee’s emphasis is on water quality.

WE’RE DOING A “GIVE BACK” HANmade Milwaukee Lakefront Souvenir Bandannas highlight freshwater recreation at its best…a benefit we’re so very fortunate to enjoy. That’s why, in conjunction with the Milwaukee WWD 5K Run/Walk, HANmade Milwaukee will give $2 from every bandanna sold ONLINE from March 22-April 22 to the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee Chapter of Engineers without Borders (EWB-UWM). Click here to purchase and therefore make a donation!

THANK YOU for helping the global work for FRESH WATER!

We made the paper!

JSOnline-LakefrontHankieAugust 17, 2012:  Colleen gets an email order from one of our vendors who ends his note with, “Congrats on the nice article in today’s paper!” Huh?  A little investigation and an email to Hannah that reads: “HOLY SMOKES!  Check out JS online Entertainment, Art City Entertainment Blog! There’s an article about our bandanna!”  It turned out that Milwaukee Journal Sentinel art and architecture critic, Mary Louise Schumacher, found our bandannas at Beans and Barley, they had become a favorite gift for her to give, and she decided to write about it in her weekly, Art City newsletter. Wow.

Reading the blog online got us all teary eyed, followed by not believing our eyes when the same article appeared in print in the Sunday paper! This is what you call a most pleasant surprise! Thank you Mary Louise and thank you to all the people who subsequently visited our website and stopped in shops around town to scoop up a bandanna or two! Click here to read the article.
